About the Workshop
Visual Journalism and teaching both have at their core the desire to share information with the world, so that people can act on the world they face, day to day. Our workshop is a celebration of the philosophy and methods of visual storytelling.
This is a tuition-free multimedia workshop for visual journalism students and visual journalists. It is tuition-free because our community must strengthen as it goes forward carrying with it the traditions of photojournalism as it transforms into the next generation of storytelling. This is not a time to despair yet so many in our field are throwing in the towel, changing career paths rather than learning to tell stories with these new tools.
Now is the time to celebrate visual journalism and strengthen our methods and philosophy in our community as we go forward as visual storytellers.
Who are we? Visual Journalists from across our field, visual journalism students, Brooks Institute and Pierce College VJ Faculty, all combining efforts to document the local community and produce a body of multimedia projects.
What is this experience? This workshop is a 24-hour shoot, followed by two post-production workshop days including a variety of guest speakers. This multimedia project combines photography, video and audio storytelling steeped in the documentary tradition, using the latest technology in visual storytelling.
When and where will the workshop be held? The workshop is July 30- August 2, 2009 in Ventura, CA. The work will be displayed on www.vjworkshops.org and launched on August 2, 2009.
